Foods To Avoid

Food Matters asked seven experts a simple question: “What foods do you avoid?” Here are some of their eye-opening responses:

Canned Tomatoes

An endocrinologist won’t go near canned tomatoes -- the cans are lined with a resin containing BPA, and tomatoes are especially dangerous because their acid breaks the BPA down in dangerous amounts.

Conventional Beef

Conventional cattle are fed grain, corn and soy to make them fat, even though studies show that grass-fed beef is higher in important vitamins, minerals and heart-healthy, anti-inflammatory fats.

Microwave Popcorn

Perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) lines microwave popcorn bags, and when they are heated the compound, which has been linked to infertility, leaches onto the food.

Conventional Potatoes

Non-organic potatoes are heavily sprayed with herbicides, pesticides and fungicides -- many potato growers don’t eat the potatoes they sell, but instead they grow their own separate plots without all the chemicals.

Farmed Salmon

Farmed salmon are stuffed into pens and fed chicken feathers and pellets. A scientific study on fish contamination showed high levels of carcinogens such as DDT and PCBs.

Conventional Milk

Dairy cows are fed growth hormones to maximize milk production, which results in increased incidence of udder infection and pus in the milk.

Conventional Apples

Apples are heavily and frequently doused with pesticides -- pesticides that have been linked to Parkinson’s.

Foundation Essentials + CoQ10 by Numedica

Foundation Essentials + CoQ10 provides an easy way to supercharge your vitamin program because you get a complete multi that includes a blend of vitamins, minerals, and important micronutrients plus CoQ10 and fish oil in convenient packets that are portable

Every packet of Foundation Essentials +CoQ10 gives you what ordinary multivitamin formulas don't, including:

·         Highly available forms of vitamin A and vitamin E.

·         Vitamin D3, or Cholecalciferol — the body's natural form of vitamin D. D-3 is real vitamin D, and is synthesized naturally in the skin. All other compounds are either metabolic products or chemical modifications.

·         A complete B vitamin profile.

·         A highly absorbable form of calcium, calcium citrate. Studies show it's up to 10 times better absorbed when compared to calcium carbonate, the commonly used, cheaper form of calcium.

·         Tocotrienols and citrus bioflavonoids that provide hesperidin, quercetin, and rutin for added antioxidant protection, and

·         Trace minerals essential for complete nutrient metabolization, including magnesium, and yes, boron.

·         Ultra-pure, molecularly distilled, natural marine lipid concentrate sourced from Ocean Nutrition of Canada, the only supplier of USP (United States Pharmacopeia) verified oils from fish caught in cold, deep sea waters.
·         CoQ Clear™ 100, a patent pending, crystal-free CoQ10, offers the highest absorption and bioavailability. CoQ10 is a component of the electron transport chain, participating in aerobic cellular respiration for generating energy. Most of the human body’s energy is generated this way. CoQ10 is a vital part of a high quality foundation nutrition regime, as an extremely powerful antioxidant.
PLUS...when you include Foundation Essentials + CoQ10 as a part of your daily diet, you'll get mineral forms that are specially modified to be quickly and easily absorbed by your body.

You see, the best, most absorbable type of minerals are what are known as "amino acid chelates." Foundation Essentials uses amino acid chelates for its minerals, specially licensed TRAACS® minerals. Other multivitamin formulas, even some of the more expensive ones, typically use only a few, cheaper, forms of amino acid chelates. And most formulas don't use them at all.

Sure, it would be cheaper to find multivitamins without this added expense. But we feel that it's important never to cut corners with your health, and science agrees with us.

You see, minerals don't like to be by themselves. Each mineral carries its own "ionic charge" that binds it to another substance, such as another mineral, an amino acid, or a vitamin. When you ingest one of these mineral compounds, the acid in your stomach breaks the mineral apart from what it's bound to.

But as I mentioned, minerals do not like to travel alone; they like to bind to another substance. So as it migrates to the small intestine, the newly freed-up mineral binds to the amino acids from the foods you ate. The best way to nourish your body cells.

This newly bound mineral-amino acid compound is then absorbed through the small intestine into the bloodstream, where it goes to nourish the various cells of your body. (This is why you're always advised to take your minerals with food.)

But here's the problem: The older you get, the less acid you have in your stomach. Without enough acid, a mineral compound like calcium carbonate won't break apart. So the mineral passes through your digestive tract unabsorbed.

That's where amino acid chelate forms come into play. In an amino acid chelate form, the mineral is ALREADY bound to an amino acid. So it's absorbed through the small intestine automatically. Even in people with impaired digestion.

By the way, among the mineral forms that do not use the superior amino acid chelates, there are different degrees of absorbability. Two forms that are notoriously poor are calcium carbonate and magnesium oxide - and they're commonly used by other multivitamin manufacturers. If you see any brands that contain these 2 forms, save your money!

Foundation Essentials + CoQ10 gives your body all the support and protection it needs, in one easy, convenient packet taken twice a day.  As pharmacists, we are often asked to recommend a simply multivitamin nutritional supplement but it’s just not that simple.  Television advertisements and the cheap supplements found in chain drugs stores simply do not compare to Foundation Essentials packets.  Start your path to health, living better, longer, and visit one of our two locations to ask our pharmacists about Foundation Essentials or other high quality products from NuMedica, the makers of Foundation Essentials.
